Participation of the University of Zielona Góra Research Team in the IFAC World Congress 2026 in Busan

31.08.2026

A research team from the University of Zielona Góra – Wojciech Paszke, Maciej Patan, Krzysztof Patan and Robert Maniarski– took part in the 23rd IFAC World Congress, the world’s most prestigious scientific event in the field of automation and control engineering. The congress was held on 23–28 August 2026 in Busan, South Korea, bringing together more than three thousand researchers, engineers, and industry experts from across the globe. IFAC World Congress is widely recognized as the leading international forum for presenting cutting-edge developments in control theory, applications, and emerging technologies.

One of the scientific highlights of this year’s congress was a special session devoted to the results of the Polish-Chinese research project SHENG 3, focused on data-driven methods for iterative learning control in complex batch processes. The session was titled: Data-Driven Iterative Learning Control for Complex Batch Systems. The session was organized by an international team of researchers representing leading academic institutions:

Liu, Tao – Dalian University of Technology (Chair, Organizer)

Eric Rogers – University of Southampton (Co-Chair, Organizer)

Wojciech Paszke – University of Zielona Góra (Organizer)

Hao, Shoulin – Dalian University of Technology

Tao, Hongfeng – Jiangnan University

Chi, Ronghu – Qingdao University of Science and Technology

The session attracted significant interest from participants engaged in iterative learning control, data-driven control strategies, and industrial batch process automation. The presented results reflect several years of close collaboration between research teams from Poland, China, and the United Kingdom, carried out under the SHENG 3 project. In addition to the scientific session, the congress provided an excellent opportunity for the SHENG 3 research team to hold dedicated collaboration meetings. These discussions focused on ongoing research tasks, future methodological developments, and the longterm roadmap of the project.

The meetings brought together key project contributors, including:

Prof. Tao Liu – Dalian University of Technology

Dr. Shoulin Hao – Dalian University of Technology

Dr. Zhihe Zhuang – Jiangnan University

These interactions strengthened the coordination of joint research activities and reinforced the strong partnership between the University of Zielona Góra and its Chinese collaborators.
